Dear PurseBop:
Is it really a good investment to purchase a pre loved Hermes quota bag on resale at DOUBLE the value?
Dear Good Investment:
Although many Hermès quota bags maintain their value and possibly even increase in value over time, purchasing quota bags for the sole purpose of realizing a return on your initial investment is not a wise way to build a collection. Quota bags are very costly and may increase in value on the resale market, but that is based on many factors. Those factors include the age of the bag, the condition of the bag, the color of the bag, the type of leather, the hardware, and the perceived popularity and desirability of all of the above elements.
Building a collection from the secondary market takes much longer to realize any profits if that is your motive.
If there is a bag you greatly desire that cannot be obtained from the boutique then the amount paid for that bag cannot be valued based solely based on an investment analysis.
Building a relationship with a SA in one boutique and purchasing items you love in the hope of being offered a quota bag is a commitment to the brand. Purchasing a quota bag from the resale market is an alternative journey that one may decide to follow. Both ways are costly and require a love of the brand.
