Dear PurseBop:
Is it possible to score an Hermès bag without spending the equal amount of the bag? Especially in western European countries that isn’t Paris?
Dear How To Score A Hermès Bag:
Shopping for Hermès quota and non-quota bags varies depending on the country. And there are different scenarios for quota vs. non-quota bags.
In Europe (excluding Paris), Hermès boutiques operate on the Wishlist system for quota bags. You may place a wishlist for one type of bag (Birkin or Kelly, Retourne or Sellier), and choose 2 different sizes. Then you may choose 3 colors or color families and one type of hardware. The wishlist expires after 1 year.
There is no obligation to buy other Hermès products while waiting for your wishlist to be granted. There is no guarantee it will be granted in the first year but it is certainly possible. We have received reports from our community members that their wishlist bag was granted with very little or no pre-spend. If it is not granted within the first year, we have been told that there may be a likelihood that it is granted during the second year. Each location is different and it is dependent on stock availability, the choices made, timing and luck.
In the U.K. the Wishlist system is essentially the same as in Europe for quota bags. We have been told that non-quota bags are offered to customers on a first come first serve basis when available. There is no required pre-spend to place a wishlist or to request a non-quota bag. Constances are non-quota bags in the U.K.
In the U.S. there is no wishlist system. A client of Hermès should shop with one Sales Associate and place their wishlist of bags with them. There is no time limit or guarantee when they will be offered a bag. Stock has been getting more and more scarce in the U.S. and as such it is getting harder to get offered a quota bag.
Each boutique in the U.S. operates differently with respect to which bags (other than Birkins and Kellys) are quota bags and which are non-quota bags. For example, Constance, Kelly Pochette, Kelly Danse, and any other bag with the name Kelly may or may not be considered a quota bag in the different Hermès boutiques in the U.S. It is best to ask your SA in your home store for clarification.
Nevertheless, we have received reports that some customers have been offered either a quota bag or a non-quota bag with no relationship with a SA and no pre-spend in that store. It is usually a matter of timing, luck, and creating a good rapport with the Sales Associate. At Hermès anything is possible.
