Question:
It has been at least a decade since I have shopped at Chanel in San Francisco. Do I need an appointment? Do you recommend that I purchase something to establish a purchase history and start a relationship with an SA? What advice can you give me?
Dear Chanel Lover:
Luxury shopping has changed since the pandemic. Lately, it is usually advantageous to shop with an appointment at a luxury store such as Chanel, Hermès, LV, Dior, Gucci, etc. This guarantees undivided attention, expert assistance, and a dedicated period of time to browse, shop, try on, and purchase items.
Chanel has been changing its rules, increasing its prices, and trying to discourage purchases by resellers. If you are interested in purchasing the popular bags in any given season it is a good idea to have an established relationship with a sales associate. Your SA is the one who will be able to secure the coveted bag, shoe, or ready to wear (rtw) that may become sold out before it hits the boutique floor.
Call or visit your local Chanel boutique and request assistance with a SA. The more you shop at Chanel, the better your chances of securing the hard to get bag of the moment. It seems Chanel is moving closer to a system similar to the established Hermès system.
