Should I Remove the Care Tag on Hermès Scarves?

Should I remove the care tag on Hermès scarves? I’m worried I would snag the seam trying to remove it.

Removing the Hermès tag on your scarves is a very personal decision. Many people believe they should not alter any item purchased from Hermès except the price tag. Some believe removing the tag from a scarf affects its authenticity, value, and is no longer in its original condition.

Others remove the tags on all items including ready to wear, scarves, etc. because they are visible or inconvenient or uncomfortable. It is a very personal choice and there is no right or wrong answer. It is similar to removing the stickers on the hardware of your handbags. Hermès SA’s strongly recommend removing the protective stickers from the hardware of your bags because they could discolor, tarnish, or damage the hardware over time.

The same is not true with scarves. If the tag is bothersome or visible when you wear it, it is acceptable to remove the tag. If not, feel free to keep the tag on your scarf. Some believe it is akin to having a logo on your luxury item and prefer leaving it on the item.

Again, it is a personal preference.
