Dear Pursebop,
I have a solid relationship with my local SA here in the US that I have started this year. I recently visited Paris and purchased some items there such as the Chypre sandals that I have been trying to get at my local boutique and some RTW. I am thinking of returning the RTW here in my local boutique. But returning it would mean that my local SA would find out that I purchased something in Paris. Should I just keep it so my relationship would not be affected? Please help
Dear RTW From Paris:
The first thing you must determine is whether your local boutique in the U.S. will allow you to return the ready to wear (rtw) you purchased in Paris, and how much credit you will receive due to the difference in price in euros from the Paris boutique versus the price in dollars in your local boutique.
Second, if your boutique will allow you to return the rtw pieces you purchased, you will have a credit to use at your boutique. When you use this credit your SA will not earn commission on the purchases you make. It is impossible to predict how your SA will react to the fact you purchased items in Paris and then returned them to your local store. Nevertheless, it is not the best scenario.
Most SA’s do not think about what purchases you make from other stores locally or abroad. They focus on what you purchase with them. The safest thing to do is keep the rtw you purchased in Paris, do not tell your SA you went to Paris unless they ask, and to continue shopping in your local boutique on a regular basis.
Good luck and happy shopping.
