Question:
Does it make sense to switch SA’s if you feel your current one isn’t offering you enough handbags (quota and non-quota bags) despite your continuous purchases over the years?
Dear Ditch My SA:
Since the beginning of the Pandemic the inventory and stock at all Hermès boutiques worldwide has been extremely low. In addition, demand for all non-quota and quota bags has been extremely high. Hermès has also experienced a surge in interest in all their products from many new and existing customers.
As a result, it is possible that your SA does not have a quota or non-quota bag similar to one on your wishlist to offer you at the present time. Many, many factors affect the ability of your SA to offer you a particular bag including availability, popularity of the bag, manager approval, and your personal spend profile.
If you have been shopping with your SA for a year or more and have an overall good relationship, our suggestion is it is better to remain with them rather than changing SA’s. However, if you feel you do not connect with your SA and are extremely unhappy then you could consider switching. However, it is likely that it will take some time to build a strong relationship with a new SA and that is time lost when attempting to obtain a bag.
We suggest booking an appointment with your SA or stopping into your local boutique to chat with your SA. It is best to maintain open communication with them at all times. Ask them in a polite way if there is a non-quota or quota bag you desire likely to be offered to you before the end of the year. Inquire whether your profile is sufficient to be offered a quota bag. Your SA will likely explain the current inventory situation in your store and their present ability to obtain the bag you desire.
Many locations have changed the rules with respect to what bags are considered quota bags. Anything with a Kelly name attached e.g. Kelly Pochette, Kelly Danse, Kelly To Go, etc. is considered a quota bag at certain locations. Some also now consider a Constance a quota bag. We are also hearing that there must be at least 90 days between quota bag offers. And if you receive a non-quota bag it may delay your timing to receive a quota bag in the near future.
These changes appear to be due to the low inventory each location is experiencing. Whether these changes will become permanent is unknown at this time. Remember, each boutique Store Director is able to institute rules as they deem necessary to control inventory and insure it is distributed evenly and fairly. Therefore, a discussion with your SA is the best way to know what changes, if any, have been established at your home boutique.
