Dear PurseBop,
I am looking to start my Hermès bag journey and am looking for recommendations for finding a NYC Hermès SA.
Dear Quest For A Quota Bag:
When you begin shopping at Hermès the first step is to find a Sales Associate (SA). This is the person you will shop with exclusively, share updates on your life, allow to know your preferences, tastes, likes and dislikes. This person will feel like a close friend, not just an acquaintance. Be sure that the person you choose understands you, takes an interest in you and your desires, and is responsive when you text for an appointment, to inquire about a product, or to submit your wishlist.
All of these things are important to consider before making the ultimate choice. Be sure to choose someone you feel comfortable asking questions about the shopping process, the products’ availability, and how to request quota and non quota bags. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as it sounds. Here are some tips to assist with your search for the perfect SA.
- Visit the location you wish to shop in regularly. NYC has three locations in Manhattan to choose from. Madison Ave (the flagship and largest store), Meatpacking, and Wall Street.
- Browse, talk to different SA’s, and listen to how the SA’s speak to their clients.
- Arrive early in the day before it gets busy so you an take your time browsing the store, the products, and speaking to different SA’s.
- Take your time and don’t rush the process. You may decide to visit one or more locations on more than one occasion until you decide what location to choose and which SA will be best for you.
- Ask the SA you are considering building a relationship with, how long they have been working for Hermès, what the procedure is to select a SA, and how best to communicate with the SA either via text or email. Try to get to know the SA first and let them get to know you. Tell them about your likes, dislikes, your preferences, and let them get to know your personality.
- Once you have chosen a location and a SA, enjoy browsing the store, ask the SA for recommendations on what areas to focus on first such as shoes, belts, fashion jewelry, or ready to wear.
- Start by making small purchases to make sure you are happy with the location and the SA you chose.
- Try to visit your SA on a regular basis such as once a month and make small purchases.
- When you feel comfortable, ask your SA if you could submit a wishlist outlining the quota bags you are interested in receiving.
- Then continue visiting the store and making purchases only with your chosen SA. If they are out of town on vacation or have a day off, return on another day. It is always best to make an appointment in advance.
- Have patience and a quota bag offer will be forthcoming.
Good luck and happy shopping.
