What Can I Do To Increase My Chances of Getting a Leather Appointment at Hermès in Paris?

Dear PurseBop:

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of scoring a leather appointment at one of the Hermès boutiques in Paris? I do not have a profile but am willing to purchase other items in order to be offered a Birkin or Kelly. If I don’t get an appointment through the lottery system, would it be ridiculous to purchase other items from the store and simply ask for an appointment?

Dear Paris Leather Appointment Hopeful:

Most people travel to Paris with the hopes of getting offered a handbag from one of the three Hermès boutiques. The lottery system is the best way to insure you will have a leather appointment. Although it is getting harder and harder to get an appointment through the online system because thousands of people apply every day, it is still worth applying every single day. Our community members share with us their many happy stories when they are successful and get a leather appointment through the online system.

There are also other methods that our community members have reported were successful for them. You may ask at the leather appointment desk if there have been any cancellations for that day. This seems to be less and less likely to occur but it is worth trying.

You could also start shopping with one SA around the store. After you have selected your items to purchase, ask the SA if they could help you secure a leather appointment or, alternatively, if they could offer you a quota or non quota bag. Some SA’s have the ability to offer bags, but it may be based on how much you have spent. Of course, none of this is a spoken rule, but this is what we hear from our community members.

In the past, customers were able to get a leather appointment and be offered a quota bag with no pre-spend at that location. This does not seem to be happening very often at the present time. We are hearing that your spending profile is viewed and may determine if you are offered a leather bag and what kind. The larger your spend profile in the non-leather departments of Hermes, the better chance you may have of being offered a quota or non quota bag.

The rules in Paris have definitely changed and no one should expect to get a bag of any kind. Spend profile is important and may be linked to whether you get offered a bag assuming you are successful at getting a leather appointment or a SA that will help you.

Good luck and let us know about your trip upon your return.

Such a helpful article! Just wondered does your profile in the UK count in Paris re spend or is it just what you spend at the Paris store at the time? Also if you’ve just had a bag in the UK store does that rule you out of getting another bag when you go to Paris? Finally do you need a leather appointment to buy non quota bags?!
