Dear PurseBop:
I’m cleaning out my closet and it would give me so much more room if I got rid of all the shoe boxes!!! Should I be saving them all? Chanel mostly – Hermes, Dior, Prada – they take up so much space – just wanted your thoughts.
Dear Luxury Boxes:
Luxury purchases such as shoes, belts, hats, handbags, and some ready to wear often come in beautiful luxury boxes or garment bags from our favorite stores such as Chanel, Hermes, Dior and Prada. The boxes protect your purchases but also may take up a lot of valuable space in a closet. Some like to stack the boxes in the closet and identify the shoe with a photo or label. Others are able to fit more pairs without the boxes.
If you have no need for the boxes for the shoes, belts, and ready to wear they are not necessary to keep. You can dispose of them or share them with a friend. Whatever keeps the closet organized and maximizes the limited space is acceptable.
We do recommend keeping the box that comes with a luxury handbag purchase. Also, keep the receipt and all documents, care booklet, authentication card, etc. that accompanies the handbag. Storing the handbag within the original box is often preferable to keep it out of the sun and protected from dust and other unwanted conditions. Even if you are able to display your handbags, it is advisable to keep the original box in the event you move or decide to rehome the bag to a friend, relative or other source.
Happy shopping and organizing.
