Dear Pursebop!

I heard about the recall of Bleu Brume in Epsom leather.
What did that mean for purchasers, did they have to return the bags? Were they offered replacements?
Thank you for the insight!

Dear Curious About Hermès Recalls,

It is quite rare for Hermès to issue a recall of their bags. However, when there is an issue or defect with the quality of their product, they act immediately.

In 2022 it became apparent that some bags produced in Bleu Brume Epsom leather were having an issue with yellowing at or near the stitching. Hermès informed purchasers of bags in Bleu Brume Epsom and they were advised they could return their bag to the boutique for store credit. In addition, since Bleu Brume was also one of the SO listed colors under Epsom leather, any Special Order that chose Bleu Brume in Epsom was also advised of the change and asked to select a different option. However, Bleu Brume in Chevre leather was unaffected and remained available for purchase.

Please note, you may have a Blue Brume in epsom bag that is perfectly fine and this should not be cause for panic. Each store, manager and sales associate will handle the situation based on the guidelines of their store.

Although customers could return their Bleu Brume bag to the boutique for store credit, it is our understanding that there was no requirement or guarantee that another similar or different quota bag would be offered at that time.

It was an unfortunate situation for many. However, the fact that Hermès wasted no time issuing the recall once they became aware of the issue is a testament to Hermès’ commitment to quality and customer service.
