Dior Dances Into Spring 2019

Paris Fashion Week opened today with Dior Spring 2019. For those of us still trying to accept the end of Summer and beginning of Fall, looking at next year’s Spring collections can be jarring.  Dior’s collection softened the blow with a dance into the season, featuring contemporary dancers gliding through falling leaves and weaving through models. Most of the ensembles were muted and flowy, pleated and draped, with nary a sparkle or neon in sight.  The shift from the structure and corsets of prior collections is obvious, and may be welcomed by some and not by others.

Dior’s handbags, on the other hand, continue the trends from Fall 2018: rebirth of the Dior Saddle bag, crossbody guitar straps, logos, labels and textiles galore. Indeed, bag-wise it’s largely the same.

The saddle bag arrived in leather and logoed fabric, with thick straps. The smaller versions appear flat, more like wallets on chains (wocs) – or perhaps more accurately wallets on guitar straps aka wogs.

Totes, duffles and messengers sported two types of branding – logos and “Christian Dior,” some including messages of “peace.”

If these don’t inspire you to pirouette, we also spied a small beaded bag, a large leather bag and a textured dark fabric lady dior with a thick guitar strap..

Will a Dior bag be choreographed  into your Spring ensembles?
