As we near the end of the year and, indeed, the decade, fashion is several steps ahead. Boutiques and department stores are welcoming the Cruise 2020 collections, with spring style one step behind. Recently, though, Christian Dior sprinted ahead to pre-Fall 2020. To be fair, it (and Dior’s pre-Fall collections generally) flew under the radar – no fancy set, no exotic locale. Shown studio-style, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri interspersed her codes or statements, about feminism and fashion.
Regarding the bags, you won’t find any truly new direction, but there are variations in material. Camouflage – different color ways – featured in clothing carries into the accessories. Lumberjack plaid is back and the Dior oblique canvas logo permeates every style. Interestingly, we didn’t spy any Lady Dior. Nevertheless, there’s probably something for everyone . . . especially if you’ve liked the last couple of seasons.
Saddle Bag
The saddle bag rides for another season. Guitar straps are big and thick, and accompany a thinner hand-held strap. Leather and fabrics are options in the women’s collection. The edgy space-age vibed version of these bags seen on, for example, Kim Kardashian, was reserved for the men’s line.

Book Tote & Gardening Tote
In this collection, the book tote completed many ensembles. Interestingly, all the models shown were the original size. Not a small or mini tote walked this runway. For those that like the look but want something a little different, there’s the gardening tote we saw last season. Additionally, while not a tote, the messenger version slung across the back, is back.

30 Montaigne Collection
One year ago when Dior previewed its pre-Fall 2019 collection, it introduced a new bag, or really bag line. Called the 30 Montaigne, it was a midsize ladylike bag with a large CD clasp. Shown in logo and leather, it was simple with clean lines. At the time, Dior intended the 30 Montaigne to be a classic rather than a show-stopper. And it was and is.
For Cruise 2020 – and hitting stores right now – is a new model of the 30 Montaigne. It’s a bit more trapezoidal than the original and has a new detachable and adjustable chain. Optionality being a draw, this bag can be carried on the shoulder or cross-body.
Take a look at the featured options.
So why write about this for pre-Fall 2020? Well, this version, among others, returns to the collection.
Don’t fret, mini-lovers. Even though the 30 Montaigne line is mostly mid-size, it looks like there’s a wee one as well.
Are you falling for the Dior pre-fall 2020? Let’s hear from you.
