The Diorever was released in the Spring/Summer 2016 collection. From the very beginning, Dior had a clear vision they wanted to accomplish with the Diorever bag. The concept of the Diorever took nearly 9 months to formulate .The Diorever is a classically structured tote bag with modern influences. According to Dior, it is meant to be a tote with “cutting-edge, urban attitude” and very a “strong and bold” character.
Dior describes the Diorever as “small architectural marvel” that takes a full day to craft. The bag consists of 47 leather components and 32 metallic accessories that must be hand-cut and individually attached by a single craftsman. The Diorever is constructed meticulously and conscientiously so that the bag will maintain its quality for years and years. The Diorever reflects the best leather-working “savoir-faire”, which translates to a type of expertise, refinement, and innate style.

Dior Going Forward
Dior has had a quite a bit of controversy surrounding their creative directors over the past years. Dior has been without a creative director since October 2015 after Raf Simons departed. As reported by WWD, Dior is expected to appoint Maria Grazia Chiuri, Valentino’s past creative director, as their new creative director. If everything goes as planned, Chiuri will be Dior’s first female creative director in its 70-year long history. Her first collection with the fashion house will be this fall, for the Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear season.
This new appointment could bring about a new shift in fashion direction. Simons’ creations had a minimalistic and futuristic feel. The new Italian designer Chiuri is known for more graceful, feminine looks that take inspiration from all over the world including destinations like Rome and Africa.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see if Dior can continue to produce hits like the Diorever while still honoring the fashion houses’ original roots.
