We may be thinking winter but Chanel is already looking ahead. To Pre-Fall 2022. Otherwise known as the Metiérs d’Art collection, this annual show features Chanel’s various heritage metiérs – or artisans. It’s a craft-centric event. And this year it was held at the newly opened Le19M building in Paris – essentially an atelier for Chanel’s talented suppliers.
So, naturally there’s plenty of lesage, embroidery, frills, jewels, and all the many details that go into a Chanel collection. Of course, that applies (and appliqués) to handbags as well.
In terms of styles, there weren’t any real directional changes. However, color lovers will delight with different shades, including red, blue, green, pink, and purple. Although the clothing is heavily branded and logo-ed, the bags were less so. And we spied both gold and silver hardware.
You’ll find lots of flaps, in all different sizes; boxes and vanity bags; and even some boys (which we haven’t seen on the runway for a bit). Alternatively, grab a ball… these little bags continue to roll in.
Ready for a preview… read on.
Flaps
Not likely to surprise any Chanel aficionados . . . but the Chanel Pre-Fall 2022 handbag grouping includes a whole lot of flap bags. Sparkly, embellished . . . a feast for the eyes. Some are the Classic hallmark Chanel style. Others not. Either way, there’s a size for everyone.
Boys
The Boys are back in town . . . and in this collection. Yes, Boys are technically flap bags, but now also are new classics in their own right. On the other hand, there is a new variation – a Boy with some curves. The rounded edges almost resemble a saddle shape with the Boy hardware.
Boxes, Vanities, and Other Shapes
Fans of the minaudière style boxes and vanity cases are in luck. So are ball shaped bags. Again. Clearly, these now are staples for Chanel. In addition, an old style eyeglass case/coin purse graced the neck of one model. Again, not really earth-shattering. But perhaps pretty and, at least, commercial.
Purple
Clearly, we also must mention the color purple. Not the subtle and pale lilac and lavender shades from Spring/Summer 2021 and 2022. We’re talking big, bold, and regal purple, that’s not a typical Chanel hue.
Interestingly, a new purple shade named Very Peri recently was name Pantone’s 2022 color of the year. Coincidence? Probably not. But interesting nevertheless.
So, are you attracted to the details and colors of this collection? Or are you committed to another Spring and Summer color frenzy, despite the regal purples here? Let us know.
Love, PurseBop
