Looking at Chanel, the view for Fall and Winter 2018 is fuzzy. It’s clear to be furry and textured, more so than in the recent past. Typically, you see a bag or two in some type of non-exotic animal fur. This time around, there’s a whole lot more. The just-released Coco Neige collection features multiple backpacks, flaps and shopping totes in shearling and/or trimmed with it.

We’ve written it. We’ve read it. This fall is all about the logo, saddle and box. Write the brand name on the sac and it sells. Make it a saddle bag, whether old school Dior or new school Loewe. Box it up—round, square or cylinder—you’ve got a hit (looking at you, Louis Vuitton). There’s big and small—a, shall we say, cornucopia. Despite the ski resort theme, it does still beg the question as to why one’s wallet needs to be kept warm. But we digress . . .

Even going back to true fall and the Paris-Hamburg Metiers collection, textured warmth was a bag motif. Beyond the expected tweed there’s embellished orylag (a type of rabbit), wool embroidered with “Chanel”, and sheepskin Gabrielle backpacks and hobos.

In other words, the fur is flying at Chanel this season. The choice is a bold move, especially as other brands, such as Gucci, have rejected fur altogether on ethical grounds. Are you buying?
