The Gucci Fall 2020 bags are classic and simple. You might even call it a huge blast from the past. It’s also a pivot from the collections of the recent past which were colorful and heavy on adornment and detail. These latest designs are clean. Purists may delight in this new direction. Perhaps even vintage lovers will be tempted. Certainly, the Jackie bag and horse bit closures make what’s old, new again.
The Jackie O Bag
For starters, and inspiration, one need only recall the fashion moment when former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (aka Jackie O) used a single-strap-over-the-shoulder Gucci bag. Jackie wore that bag on repeat throughout the years. Indeed, it became one of the many hallmarks of Jackie O style. Thus . . . the Jackie bag.
Clearly, Gucci’s Jackie bag has been around for decades. At times, it’s more popular, others less. Over the years, Gucci has produced it in a variety of fabrications. But it’s back big time for Fall 2020. In fact, with few exceptions it’s the main bag on the runway. Perhaps not surprisingly, the bag first featured in the Gucci men’s autumn/winter line. Evidently, Gucci wants all of us to fall for this design.
In its recent fashion show in Milan, Gucci showed the Jackie bag in two sizes and many colors. The fabrications include Gucci logo print and assorted leather colors from black to white to pink to light blue. No doubt there will ultimately be more options. All have that distinctive gold lock fixture and a short tight shoulder strap.
Horsebit Hardware
On the other hand, If the Jackie bag isn’t classic enough for you, the Gucci Fall 2020 bag lineup included a few other clean designs. Check out the bucket bag, duffle and zip top tote. These bags feature Gucci’s traditional gold hardware.
What do you think of Gucci’s clean lines? It it the change you want?
