The eagerly anticipated Harry Styles/Alessandro Michele collaboration for Gucci, appropriately named HA HA HA, debuted recently, and it is nothing short of spectacular. Highlighted in our earlier article on fashion’s new “It boy” Harry Styles, the HA HA HA collection represents Styles’ first foray into fashion design and is expected to be a huge hit. Running the gamut from full three piece suits, to cheeky pyjamas, to accessories like sunglasses, silk scarves, and even a bow tie, Harry’s new collection has something for the fashionista in all of us.
We are especially excited that the collection includes handbags and . . . a suitcase. Now we can all carry what Harry carries!
As for the handbags, the collection includes three versions of the Gucci HA HA HA Jackie 1961 shoulder bag. These brand new additions to Gucci’s signature handbag line update the hallmark half moon shaped purse with piston hardware. But Harry’s style doesn’t come cheap – this bag retails at $6,900. It comes in both black and cherry red leather.
According to the Gucci website, “Gucci HA HA HA expresses the friendship between Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, and the British singer, songwriter and actor Harry Styles”. Further explanation discloses that the collaboration is based on whimsical motifs and vibrant colors– as evidenced by the remake of the Jackie 1961 bag. HAHA reinvents the design with unexpected metal eyelets. Like all things Gucci, the classic Jackie handbag line and the HA HA HA addition combine fine Italian tradition with contemporary features.
Gucci’s details, naturally, are spot on. Multi-sized eyelets and silver toned hardware combine to create a unique design that seems at once both modern and vintage. The bag includes a handle with a 7.1 inch drop as well as a detachable chain strap with interlocking crystal G’s. It has a piston closure and the dimensions are 10.8” wide by 7.5” high by 1.6” deep. Of course, the bag is made in Italy.
Interestingly, Gucci lists the bag on its website under the “shoulder bags for women” category. However, as with everything Harry Styles does, this bag can be viewed as unisex as we can envision anyone embracing this look. Certainly, it is when Harry wears it.
For styling inspiration, Gucci paired the Jackie bag with the Gucci HA HA HA denim jacket (retailing at $3980) and denim pants ($1600) along with Gucci HA HA HA printed silk tie ($410).
Similarly, the collection introduces the Gucci HA HA HA Jackie 1961 shoulder bag in a natural and brown leopard print calf hair. Retailing at $3600, this bag features gold-toned hardware and includes one open pocket and one zipper pocket in the interior. This style comes with an additional shoulder strap which attaches to the bag with a buckle closure. Categorized by Gucci as a small bag, it measures 11” wide by 7.5 by 1.8” deep.
Harry Styles wore this exact purse when arriving in Venice for the Venice Film Festival this past September for the world premiere of his film Don’t Worry Darling. He paired it with Gucci HA HA HA cherry denim pants (retail $1850), a pink and green sweater also from the collection (square G vest, retail $1600), and a beautiful burgundy sport coat.
If your upcoming plans include travel you are in luck! The HA HA HA collection includes a rigid suitcase. It’s shown in the same natural and brown leopard print calf hair as the shoulder bag described above.
Retailing at $7,900, Harry carried this bag upon his arrival in Venice. The suitcase has brown leather trim, gold-toned hardware, a leather tag with the signature overlocking G’s, a leather lock and key holder, as well as protective metal feet at the bottom. Inside are two gussets and two straps. Weighing 8.4 pounds, the dimensions are 18.7” wide by 12.2” high by 4” deep.
Additionally, although not part of the HA HA HA collection, the gorgeous Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag is heavily featured in Harry’s Gucci photoshoot. Shown in black and tan, both are showstoppers for Gucci purists and Harry stans.
Well, if we can’t have Harry himself, at least we have have a Gucci HAHAHA bag. Are any of these on your holiday wishlist? Let us know.
Love, PurseBop
