For Spring 2019, the Hermès Herbag is back (not that it ever really went away). The long-time popular bag (for her or him) featured on the runway along with other bags not in the Hermès Birkin\Kelly\Constance trifecta. In other words, there were no B/K/Cs. However, there was plenty of variety, in shape, size and fabrication.
First, though, there were at least three Herbags in the Spring 2019 show. Resembling the shape of a Kelly but constructed of canvas with leather trim, the Herbag has remained a staple of the Hermès bag stable, without the exclusivity and price point of the B/K/C bags. Don’t tell anyone but, as of the writing of this article, there’s one on the Hermès US website.
Hermès described its Spring 2019 theme as from sail to saddle, and the bags certainly reflected this. Large slouchy bags in leather and suede with thick straps completed the models’ ensembles.
The thick straps also accompanied the more refined Verrou – in both leather and exotic.
One of our favorites was a bucket style – in saddle and sail materials.
Structure came in other shapes and sizes too.
One structured exotic bag had (gasp) a chain strap . . . Despite making Verrou bags with chains (and folks turning wallets into bags with farandoles), it’s not a common strap for Hermès. (Read Battle of the WOCs: Chanel v Hermès).
Are you craving a new Herbag? Or will you still hold out for a Birkin or Kelly? Or something else. Let us know.
