It seems global banks aren’t the only ones paying attention to international currency markets. Earlier this Spring, we found out that Chanel was realigning their prices in the face of the devaluing euro and here at PurseBop we have some more exclusive news on this front!
What we thought might never happen is in fact happening. Hermes is reducing prices in the US on accessories to keep pace with the euro almost reaching parity with the dollar. PurseBop spoke with multiple US stores and can exclusively report that Hermes is reducing prices on leather jewelry, enamel click clacs, painted enamels and silks ( scarves, ties, shawls) at their US boutiques. It looks like Christmas came early!
While PurseBop’s sources confirmed this move comes in the face of an ever-weakening euro, there is still room for much speculation. Just last month Hermes head Axel Dumas stated the company had no intentions of making the move, so what gives? No one can know for sure, but we suspect that Hermes was losing out on US sales from summer travelers visiting Europe. This could also indicate a broader weakening in the luxury market but we won’t know for sure until next quarter.
