More Hermès Bags and RTW Coming for Fall-Winter 2024

PurseBop attends the Second Chapter of the Hermès Fall-Winter 2024 Collection Runway show in New York.

Traveling to the Hermès show felt different yet the same. Boarding my early morning flight to LGA, I couldn’t help but wonder and anticipate the experience that was to set the stage in NYC. The March Fall-Winter show was still fresh in my mind as the collection is my favorite till date —and I can hardly wait for fall even though summer has only begun.

The afternoon brought heavy rains reminiscent of the Paris show day but thankfully the evening cleared and brought a beautiful sunset.

The venue space was mysteriously dark, making it difficult to really admire attendees’ bags. Above hung oversized traffic lights 🚦 — it felt very NYC… then it all began to make sense when the first grouping of models entered in what Hermès calls ‘ginger yellow’…

The Hermès Rider

First, a quick recap of Chapter One back in Paris in March. At the heart of the first chapter of the Hermès Fall-Winter 2024 collection was ‘The Rider’. Whether navigating a city on a motorcycle or riding a horse through the rolling countryside, The Rider stood as the central muse. This Hermès woman was distinctive throughout the entire collection, from studded leather biker jackets to jodhpurs and clean-cut wool jackets.

And then there were the bags. Whether the Shoulder Birkin was tucked under an arm to shield from the elements, or the new Collier d’Attelage was effortlessly slung crossbody for hands-free convenience while continuing the ride – the spirit of The Rider was evident in every accessory.

Now onto the second chapter. . .

The Second Chapter of Fall-Winter 2024

Hermès landed in New York on Thursday, June 7, debuting the Second Chapter of the women’s Fall-Winter 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection on Manhattan’s Lower East Side at Pier 36. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first time a Hermès show had debuted outside of Paris.

Some of the many notable names of the attendees included Usher, Lily Allen, Jenny Slate, Natasha Lyonne, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Spector, Olivia Palermo, Tierra Whack, Brent Faiyaz, Camila Alves McConaughey, Morgan Stewart, Katerina Tannenbaum, Anna Wintour, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, and Kathy Hilton.

Following the first chapter of the Fall-Winter 2024 collection, Nadège Vanhée introduces a fresh visual lexicon to the story that began in Paris in March. Shifting the focus from The Rider, this chapter’s keyword is ‘Rocabar.’ As Hermès relays in its program:

Rocabar, conjures a tradition of play and collaboration across cultures and languages: originally the name of a striped horse rug – a rug à barres, as a Scottish saddler once called it – it has settled, over the course of more than a century, into an iconic Hermès motif of vibrantly earthy color tones. And those tones find their natural counterpoint in the iconic brick and stone façades of New York’s Lower East Side, where the buzzing city looks across the East River to a radiant sprawl of urban possibility.

The ode to the New York streets is evident throughout, yet the collection retains a definite Parisian flair, seamlessly mixing heritage with modern and eclectic touches. Hermès describes the lineup as a ‘mosaic of patterns, a melting pot of colors, textures, and codes.’ Notably, pieces from Chapter One were seamlessly styled alongside new designs, creating a cohesive narrative.

The color palette presents a fresh departure from Chapter One’s classic autumnal hues, introducing vibrant tones such as vermilion red, ginger yellow, and viridian green, along with a sprinkling of graphic prints, which infuse the collection with a lively and contemporary dimension.

Models styled with leather mariner caps graced the dark runway, illuminated by large yellow traffic spotlights suspended from the ceiling. Hermès showcased its commitment to inclusivity by diversifying its model range, ensuring a more representative display of beauty.

The collection expanded its effortlessly chic lineup with more sleek leather two-pieces, an array of overcoats, and a selection of slinky dresses featuring leather panel detailing. The cool-girl vibe continues, with the Western boots making a stylish return to the runway, paired with classic tailoring. As a nod to the brand’s heritage, equestrian inspiration is woven throughout, adding an element of functionality to the collection.

The Bags

And then there are the bags – this chapter presents an array of designs reminiscent of what we’ve seen before but with a fresh perspective on styling and colorways. Some familiar silhouettes are reintroduced from the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, while others make a return from Fall/Winter Chapter One. Once again, oversized offerings are held close to the body, while mini bags are carried by hand. Additionally, belt bags add to the cool-girl vibes throughout the collection.

This season brings a departure from classic colorways, introducing vibrant hues like Vermilion red and viridian green alongside the timeless black and deep browns.

  • Love my Arcon bag but wish Hermes would establish a focus group to get the opinions of it’s clientele…I live in NYC…please give me a zipper, snap or clip to hold my bag closed! All those models holding the bag in their hands would get it snatched by the guys on e-bikes in 2 seconds lol…
