LV’s 2025 Met Gala Magic: What Handbags to Expect

Though it’s only October, fashion enthusiasts are already buzzing about the first Monday in May. On October 9, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the theme of its Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. According to Vogue, the exhibition will feature ‘garments, paintings, photographs, and more’ that highlight the enduring influence of Black men’s style within the context of dandyism, spanning from the 18th century to today.

In line with this theme, the 2025 Met Gala chairs couldn’t be more fitting – Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will lead the event, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair.

Pharrell Williams stands out as a co-chair, especially given his influential role as Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton. Making an impressive debut in 2023 to showcase the Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection, Pharrell set the fashion world abuzz with his innovative approach and bold aesthetic. With fellow co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky often seen in the front row at his shows and sporting the Damier Denim with pride, it’s clear that the LV love runs deep. Given this strong connection to the iconic French Maison, we wouldn’t be surprised to see an influx of Louis Vuitton bags adorning the iconic Met Gala steps in 2025.

With that in mind, we’ve embraced our inner Law Roach and styled each of the co-chairs and select attendees with Louis Vuitton bags that are perfectly suited for the Met Gala.

Let’s start with the event’s Co-Chairs:

Colman Domingo

Consistently championing red carpet style, Colman Domingo has mastered the art of impeccable tailoring. Recently announced as a co-chair, he is sure to choose accessories that reflect his sophisticated taste. After attending Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2025 runway show, Colman offered a glimpse into his bag preferences, leaning towards crossbody styles.

However, to complement his chic tailored looks, we envision a timeless top-handle option with a crossbody option. For this reason, we’re styling Colman Domingo with the Louis Vuitton Petite Valise Malletage. This iteration of the classic trunk-inspired silhouette features luxurious Malletage detailing and is crafted from sleek black leather, elevated with striking gold-tone hardware. It would pair perfectly with a tuxedo.

Lewis Hamilton

Known for embracing bold prints and patterns, Lewis Hamilton effortlessly styles everything from neutrals to vibrant, eye-catching ensembles. Often seen styling Dior and Rimowa, he’s also no stranger to a touch of Louis Vuitton Monogram.

While it may not be Ferrari Rosso Corsa, we’ve paired Lewis with the upcoming Handle Soft Trunk from the Spring-Summer 2025 collection. Reimagined in a fresh, preppy forest green and navy blue colorway, this updated Damier design features complementary blue leather accents and is finished with brushed silver-tone, trunk-inspired hardware. It’s a blend of sporty sophistication, ideal for someone who loves making a statement.

A$AP Rocky

Never one to shy away from bold accessories, A$AP Rocky has recently been favoring the Bottega Veneta Andiamo, but his impressive collection also includes pieces from Goyard, Gucci, and Hermès.

Turning our attention to Louis Vuitton, Rocky is no stranger to Pharrell’s designs—he famously matched partner Rihanna in a head-to-toe Damier Denim ensemble at the Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 show. Known for embracing statement looks, we’ve paired A$AP Rocky with the Steamer 30 Bag. Reintroduced in the Fall-Winter 2024 lineup, this reimagined 1901 luggage piece has been updated with a more utilitarian design. Made in Monogram Dust canvas with aged cowhide leather trim, its faded pattern and aged gold-tone hardware lend a retro feel to a modern classic. We can easily see him styling this bag handheld, sans strap, for a standout red carpet moment.

LeBron James

We certainly couldn’t forget about honorary chair LeBron James. Known for favoring large carryalls, whether it’s an exotic design from Thom Browne or a classic Louis Vuitton Keepall, James always travels in style. He even appeared in Louis Vuitton’s campaign for the Speedy P9 Bandoulière and is often spotted sporting the green colorway from his personal collection.

While the Speedy P9 Bandoulière from the Spring-Summer 2025 collection seems like a natural fit for LeBron, we envision something a little more unexpected. Enter the Soul Trunk East West bag. Made from LV Colorada calfskin, this sleek, all-black design ditches the iconic Monogram altogether. Offering a slouchy silhouette, the bag is finished with silver-tone hardware for an understated, chic aesthetic. We can picture LeBron embracing this minimal yet refined look for the Met Gala.

Pharrell Williams

And then, of course, there’s the man himself — Pharrell Williams. Always ready to make a statement piece, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him with a Millionaire Speedy in hand. Whether it’s the latest crocodile edition featuring a chunky Cuban chain, set to drop in January, or something even more exclusive, Pharrell always knows how to push the boundaries. Who knows — by the time May rolls around, we might just see him debuting a Billionaire Speedy.

Anna Wintour

All eyes are always on Vogue’s global editorial director and Metropolitan Museum of Art trustee, Anna Wintour. For that reason, we’re flipping the script on the photographers at the iconic Met steps. In a playful twist, we’ve paired Anna with Louis Vuitton’s Nautilus Bag. Showcased in the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, this exceptional piece reimagines a vintage camera trunk, combining Monogram canvas with luxurious gold-tone hardware — perfect for capturing the moment in style.

And now the attendees...

Zendaya

As a 2024 Met Gala co-chair, Zendaya turned heads with not one, but two stunning looks. For 2025, we envision the star sparkling with another bold choice — and naturally, she deserves an equally show-stopping accessory. Enter Louis Vuitton’s Treasure Box from the LV Sea Treasure capsule collection. This glamorous minaudière features a Monogram satin body, completely covered in hand-applied translucent crystals. With gold-tone trim and the iconic S-lock clasp, this dazzling piece — styled with its top handle — would be the ultimate red carpet accessory.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Even when she’s not channeling her iconic Carrie Bradshaw persona, actress Sarah Jessica Parker experiments with fashion. Known for her love of chic top-handle bags and petite, sparkling minaudières, we’ve found the perfect match for her next Met Gala look. With Nicolas Ghesquière recently unveiling Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2025 collection, it’s highly likely that a standout accessory from the lineup will make its debut on the red carpet. For SJP, we’ve selected the new Fan Clutch in a classic Monogram. While it features a practical wristlet strap, we envision SJP styling it as a clutch, just like it was showcased on the runway for an effortlessly elegant look.

Rihanna

We’re betting on Rihanna making her 11th Met Gala appearance, especially with her beau A$AP Rocky serving as co-chair. While she often graces the event without a bag, we can imagine her stylist and team handling her accessory of choice behind the scenes. A certified Louis Vuitton lover, Rihanna is a fan of Pharrell’s collections, and for her look, we’ve paired her with a practical yet chic choice – the Nano Alma from the Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 runway show. Compact yet stylish, this minimal iteration is crafted from fine-grained black calfskin and features iconic LV initials in silver and a black luggage tag. Plus, it can fit comfortably inside A$AP Rocky’s Steamer 30 Bag if she tires of carrying it.

Bad Bunny

Known for embracing the unexpected on the Met Gala carpet, there’s no doubt Bad Bunny will have something spectacular in store for the 2025 event. While he often favors neutrals – infused with his signature flair – we’re confident he’ll choose a statement accessory to elevate his look. That’s why we’re pairing him with a classic Louis Vuitton bag with a contemporary twist. Recently showcased on the Spring-Summer 2025 runway, the Petite Malle now features a padded upgrade in sleek all-black leather with silver-tone hardware.  After all, who says women’s accessories can’t be carried by men?

Jennifer Lopez

Always a familiar face at the Met Gala, Jennifer Lopez shone brightly as a co-chair at last year’s event. Known for her love of crystals and metallics, we coupled J-Lo with Louis Vuitton’s Micro Malle Capitale. Free of any Monogram, this dazzling mini trunk is crafted from metal and fully encrusted in shimmering crystals. Beyond being a clutch, we can easily envision J-Lo carrying the sparkling Micro Malle by its petite, top handle.

Riley Keough

Frequently attending Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton runway shows, Riley Keough is a well-known figure in the LV community. She often opts for the more unconventional designs from the Maison, favoring unique textures and colors over the iconic Monogram. In this spirit, we’ve styled Riley with a Petite Malle from the LV Ébéniste collection. This isn’t just any Petite Malle – it’s a striking creation crafted from real wood and coated in glossy resin. Featuring a beige colorway and complemented by elegant gold-tone hardware, this exceptional bag is sure to turn heads.
