My 2024 in Bags Avec Anna: The Good, The Bad, & the Boxed

With 2025 now just days away, I’ve been reflecting on the luxury pieces that defined my year. While Spotify Wrapped highlights our musical tastes of the year, I’m taking a fashion-forward approach—unpacking the highs, the lows, and the bags that made (and didn’t quite make) my year.

Here’s my 2024 in luxury, Avec Anna style.

The Constant Companion

While 2024 marked my plunge into the world of Hermès handbags, it was the effortlessly versatile Goyard Sénat Pouch that earned its place as my most-used accessory. With two colorways now in my collection, the Sénat easily adapted from casual days to summer getaways and evenings out. I often used it as a pouch inside larger totes, and it was incredibly easy to pack. As a result, this little gem became the ultimate travel companion, perfectly suited for a year filled with European travels.

The Luxury Letdown

Thankfully, my least-worn luxury item of the year wasn’t a bag. Every handbag in my collection had its turn, but it was shoes that ended up neglected—specifically my Hermès Hour Loafers. The pair I frantically hunted down after trying them during Paris Fashion Week has only been worn a handful of times, still far from fulfilling their potential. Not the most comfortable out of the box, I’ve yet to get through that dreaded break-in phase. Here’s hoping I find the willpower to give them their moment in 2025.

The One That Got Away

This summer, I almost scored the ultimate find – a vintage Hermès Constance 18 in Rouge H with matching enamel hardware. It was in pristine condition and at an unbeatable price, a true gem. Unfortunately, I hesitated just a little too long, and by the time I was ready to commit, it was gone. But all wasn’t lost – I managed to land another treasure in that iconic orange box just a couple of months later. . .

The Bag I’ve Fallen Out of Love With

Chanel may no longer hold the top spot in my collection, but it’s Celine, particularly the Celine Triomphe, that truly fell out of favor this year. While it remains a fantastic crossbody, I’ve found myself steering away from heavy logos and overt branding. Perhaps it’s just a phase. With Hedi Slimane’s departure and Michael Ryder now taking the reins, I’m curious to see how the Triomphe evolves (or fades away) in future collections.

The Showstopper

My biggest purchase of 2024, both in size and significance when it comes to cost, was undoubtedly the Hermès Arçon. After visiting the Hermès Lille boutique at the tail end of my summer trip across France, the Arçon quickly (and unexpectedly) found its way into my collection. Chic, sleek, and understated, it exudes IYKYK vibes. With its equestrian-inspired design, this bag has become my ultimate everyday companion—and without a doubt, my greatest purchase of the year.

The Year Ahead

With the New Year just days away, I’ve been rethinking my 2025 wishlist. While the Hermès Kelly tops the list, I know that could take some time. But if the Hermès fairies aren’t granting wishes, I’ve been considering adding a touch of Bottega Veneta to my collection. The Andiamo and the Hop bags in Fondant brown suede have truly stolen my heart. While they’re not the most practical for rainy London days, I’m definitely considering adding one of these styles to my Spring wardrobe. Watch this space.
