Chanel made its grand return to the iconic Grand Palais Éphémère venue on October 3, to present Virginie Viard’s latest masterpieces for Spring-Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear. In an official statement released prior to the show, the French fashion house declared:
“Today’s show is inspired by the Villa Noailles. Built from 1923 in Hyères, South of France, the Villa Noailles is an architectural manifesto. The pure and simple lines of the villa resonate with Gabrielle Chanel’s modern vision.”
In the lead-up to the grand reveal of Spring-Summer 2024, Chanel released a cinematic sneak peek, directed by Inez & Vinoodh. These short black and white snippets star Rianne Van Rompaey, framed against the backdrop of the Villa Noailles, nestled in the heights of Hyères, in the South of France. In this ode to art de vivre, Chanel effortlessly captures a sense of the ’60s free spirit, invoking nostalgia for a time when creativity and freedom knew no bounds.
Virginie Viard described her vision for the Spring-Summer 2024 collection:
“I tried to bring one thing and its opposite together in the coolest way possible. And the gardens and swimming pool of the Villa Noailles, this exceptional setting, lend themselves to that rather well. “
A variety of styles were showcased in the collection, exhibiting the casual elegance of the French Riviera. The color palette of the SS24 collection is a celebration of vibrant hues, among classic Chanel textures and black and white silhouettes. And, of course, pink. Multicolored bouclé, patchwork, and loose, flowy silhouettes elicit a sense of carefree sophistication. Denim two-piece ensembles emphasize this laid-back attitude, while shades of pink and coral introduce a touch of subtle femininity. A sprinkling of sequin embellishments elevated the collection’s glamour factor.
Models graced the runway in nautical stripes, simplistic flip-flops, and whimsy floral prints – a stylish homage to the French Riviera style. Think beachwear, with a touch of haute couture. Meanwhile, classic two-piece suit sets in pink tweed embodied the timeless elegance of Chanel.
Of course, there were plenty of bags spotted on the runway to complement these summer-ready ensembles. Chanel’s offering this season spans from petite jewelry-inspired minaudières designed for evening wear to oversized shopper totes for effortless days at the beach. This collection certainly embodies laid-back chic and seamlessly blends style with functionality.
Classic Flap
No Chanel collection is without a Classic Flap bag, and the Spring/Summer 2024 runway was no exception. Size-wise, flap bags ranged from mini to medium – no jumbos or maxi’s here. The double-flap bag in small and medium was seen in peach ombre effect leather, classic and embellished tweed, and bold patchwork sequins. A single-flap design was also featured in floral and CC print fabric. Meanwhile – mini-flap bags were reimagined in metallic tweeds, striped sequins, and classic black.
Wallet on Chain
The wallet on chain has had a Spring Summer 2024 refresh. This time, this iconic and versatile piece has been elevated with chain detailing – channeling those 90s Chanel vibes.
Camera Bag
Lights, camera, action! Introducing the new Chanel Camera bag, a fresh addition to the Spring-Summer 2023 collection. While Chanel has always been known for its iconic camera bags, this season brings a playful twist – a literal camera bag. Seen on the runway in classic black, beige, white, and bold red, this fun design carries a touch of nostalgia. Featuring a timeless chain shoulder strap, the bag was showcased both crossbody and on the shoulder of runway models.
Deauville Tote
The much-loved Chanel Deauville tote has been reimagined, in summer-ready woven raffia, complete with leather handles and chain shoulder straps. Showcased in tri-color pastel pink, turquoise, and natural wicker – this latest offering is sure to be a hit. If classic colorways are more your thing, there’s a black option too.
Sequin Tote
Catching our attention was the Chanel sequin tote. Not dissimilar to the Chanel 22, this new bag appears to have a sleeker profile and lies flat against the body. Adorned with dazzling sequins, and ‘CHANEL’ lettering, this timeless tote will transition from day to night. Seen in seasonally appropriate turquoise, as well as white.
Chanel 22
The Chanel 22 made a striking appearance on the runway, showcasing nautical-inspired stripes, and adorned with gold-tone hardware. This collection highlights the 22 range and includes both the backpack and mini bag. The 22 backpack boasts a monochromatic stripe design, while the highly sought-after mini version has also undergone a nautical makeover, featuring red and black stripes.
It doesn’t stop there for the Chanel 22, the dazzling silver mini variation caught our eye on the runway. Summer metallics are set to be hot this upcoming season, so where better to start than the silver Chanel Mini 22?
Mini Bags
Miniatures continue to saturate Chanel’s latest handbag collections. Adorned with pearl detail shoulder straps, these miniature triangular box bags are a fresh take on a timeless design. These mini delights also feature a tiny top handle, pearl strap, and CC logo detailing, and were spotted in black, coral, and yellow.
There’s a retro vibe to much of this collection, and the bags are no exception. This vintage-inspired mini bag, has a classic purse frame, with top fastening. However, this ladylike style is updated with its oversized and chunky hand-held chain.
Flap Bags
While it goes without saying that the Classic Flap bag is the original, there are plenty of seasonal flap bags in this collection. A patent flap bag with a vintage-inspired design graced the runway. This new addition features a top handle shoulder strap and yellow-tone gold hardware.
Sure to be a summer vacation travel bag, the new travel tote. Crafted in what appears to be a satin fabric, this travel bag is finished with gold-tone hardware, and ‘Chanel’ lettering detail within the chain. This oversized travel tote features metal feet on the base, a zippered fastening, and a front flap. It doesn’t stop there, as there is a mini pouch attached. While we’re currently unsure if this additional pouch is removable, we simply adore the design.
Pearl Crush
Something we have seen in previous collections is the Pearl Crush bag. Similar in design to the mini flap, the Pearl Crush is finished with a pearl detail within the iconic chain shoulder strap. Seen here in bright white, and timeless black, and both the micro and mini size.
Minaudières
Is it jewelry or is it a bag? A Chanel runway would be incomplete without a touch of whimsy. Usually found in the form of iconic and highly collectible minaudières, this season sees a shift. Jewelry-inspired bags graced the runway. Here we see a miniature coin purse-style bag, complete with a delicate chain strap. The intricate Chanel emblem design is sure to turn heads. Even if the petite purse doesn’t hold much.
What are your thoughts on the bags in Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection? Will you sparkle with sequins or stick to the more classic pieces? Let us know what’s making it onto your wishlist.
Love, PurseBop

There is nothing as refined as the traditional Chanel hand bag! The pearl accents are great, pearls which are Coco Chanel signature!
Over the years I have collected many Chanel bags and I am saving them for my 16 year old granddaughter when she will truly appreciate them. When she was one and a half I dressed her in a beautiful silk dress, barefoot, and placed 3 necklaces on the floor. One was a Chanel with pearls! She immediately picked up the Chanel put it on. I took a picture of her and my sister painted a life size portrait of her with necklace in her mouth and of course the Chanel CC very prevalent!!! At One she certainly had great taste!!! PS their were far more expensive necklaces for her to pick up but Chanel was her favorite!!!!
