Pharrell Presents New Soft Leather Bags for Louis Vuitton Men’s S/S 2025

Launching Paris Men’s Spring-Summer 2025 fashion week with a bang, was Pharrell Williams, at the helm of Louis Vuitton. Unveiled at La Maison de l’UNESCO in Paris on June 18, 2024, all eyes were back on Creative Director Pharrell for his second Spring-Summer collection since his impressive debut.

In the lead-up to the runway show, Louis Vuitton released a short film in collaboration with the creative collective Air Afrique and art critic Simon Njam. This film highlighted the collection’s theme – Le Monde Est À Vous – which translates to ‘the world is yours.’ Inspired by the late Virgil Abloh’s iconic Spring 2019 menswear collection titled We Are the World, Pharrell aptly touched on Abloh’s influential legacy.

Showtime

The Louis Vuitton runway mirrored the collection’s theme, Le Monde Est À Vous, with a globe-like structure at its center, surrounded by the flags of the UNESCO countries. This multicultural setup perfectly captured the Maison’s spirit of travel as well as international sporting events. The runway itself resembled a lush green soccer pitch in the signature Damier print. After all, with the 2024 Olympics in Paris on the horizon, and the UEFA Euros well underway in Munich, the timing felt especially fitting. LVMH’s brand Berluti contributed by designing the uniforms for the French Olympic teams, while Louis Vuitton took a central role, creating a bespoke trunk for the Olympic Torch, as well as carriers for the medals.

The color palette, however, was a bit unexpected for a Spring-Summer collection. All-black ensembles dominated the first half of the show, creating a striking monochromatic look. The runway designs then transitioned into muted neutrals before embracing more traditional Spring-Summer hues. Adding to the mix of Damoflage, and ‘Cowmooflage,’ LV introduces Damier multicolor,  snakeskin Damier, and a map design.

True to Pharrell’s signature style, the show featured an abundance of accessories, particularly bags. Once again, Williams found inspiration in the Maison’s archives to reimagine forgotten gems, including the Nile and Boulogne bags, seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary design elements. This collection also marks the launch of the new ‘Soft Leather Goods’ lineup. The brand’s travel heritage was prominently showcased, with everything from trunks and travel totes to suitcases making an appearance. There was plenty of Monogram too, with Pharrell’s now-iconic Speedy P9 reimagined in fresh colorways, alongside matte black offerings, and the all-new multicolor Damier.

'Soft Leather Goods'

Pharrell introduced the soft leather Monogram of the Speedy P9 during his debut collection last year. Since then, this slouchy and supple leather construction has become a hallmark of the Creative Director’s designs, extending across numerous styles.

For Spring-Summer 2025, Pharrell delved into LV’s extensive archives to present a series entitled ‘Soft Leather Goods.’ This expansive lineup brings a bold new meaning to SLGs, showcasing larger, statement LV pieces. Each piece in the classic Monogram colorway features a bronze key chain engraved with ‘Louis Vuitton, Soft Leather Goods,’ while others are constructed entirely in sleek black.

So Black

All-black everything dominated the first half of the show, with a plethora of accessories showcased in smooth black leather with matte black hardware, creating a sleek ‘so black’ aesthetic. While Louis Vuitton has a history of black Monogram designs, including the Eclipse, and the Empreinte leather, the new so black Monogram is set to become a favorite. It was spotted on everything from the Alma with elongated handles, mini Soft trunks, Boulogne bags, suitcases, and Speedys P9, as well as oversized trunks.

Alongside the So Black Monogram is the Shadow Speedy, first presented in the Fall-Winter 2024 collection. Void of the Monogram entirely, it offers a sleek and understated look in, of course, black.

Monogram Soft Leather

Let’s take a look at the Monogram Soft Leather Goods lineup. . .

Montsouris Backpack

In Louis Vuitton’s women’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, Nicolas Ghesquière revived the iconic Montsouris backpack first released in 1994. Pharrell echoed this revival in his recent collection, introducing a new backpack style featuring a silhouette and drawstring flap design reminiscent of the Montsouris. This updated version includes multiple zippered pockets for added functionality. The new style was showcased on the runway in both classic Monogram canvas and an all-black leather variant.

Noé Bucket Bag

The utilitarian makeover extended beyond the Speedy and Montsouris to include the iconic Noé Bucket bag. This classic style now features a zip pouch pocket on the front, emblazoned with the words ‘YOUR NAME’ atop the Monogram. The traditional leather drawstring has been replaced with a sporty woven rope, trimmed with Vachetta leather, and secured with a gold LV slider fastening. This new Noé design was showcased on the runway in both Nano and GM sizes.

Boulogne Bag

Another reimagined design is the Boulogne. Previously re-released within the women’s Spring-Summer 2022 collection, Pharrell has given the archival Boulogne his own twist. Displayed in an oversized weekender size alongside a classic handbag style, the Boulogne was shown in supple leather with the Monogram design as well as in So Black Monogram leather.

Neverfull

The beloved Neverfull receives a leather upgrade in Pharrell’s signature slouchy style. It features an additional zippy coin purse, an oversized clochette, and a luggage tag embossed with Monogram.

Nile

From deep in the archives, the vintage LV Nile bag has been elevated to contemporary heights. Crafted in the supple Monogram leather, the updated Nile bag boasts a relaxed slouch. Enhanced with two detachable straps – a short style and an adjustable version for crossbody wear – the bag retains its signature front pouch-pocket design and zippered fastenings.

Soft Trunks

Yes, trunks plural, as there’s more than one. The first features an intriguing design reminiscent of Trompe-l’œil, a motif seen abundantly in Nicolas Ghesquière’s Fall 2024 collection. However, unlike traditional printed Trompe-l’œil, the soft construction of these trunks creates an illusionary effect enhanced by sturdy leather trim and metal corners. Complete with a Vachetta top handle and zippered fastening, both sizes showcase the signature slouch. Could this be the men’s alternative to Ghesquière’s iconic Side Trunk?

The second style is reminiscent of the men’s Soft Trunk, borrowing classic trunk details from the beloved Petite Malle. This hybrid design retains the soft leather construction but adds oversized metal corners for structural integrity. Complete with a detachable crossbody strap, the bag was showcased as a clutch on the runway.

Transparent Monogram

The influence of the late Virgil Abloh, former Louis Vuitton Menswear designer, was unmistakable throughout, particularly evident in the transparent Monogram. Inspired by Abloh’s iconic Spring 2019 menswear collection titled ‘We are the World,’ it’s fitting that Pharrell named his latest collection ‘The World is Yours.’ The tribute extended to accessories as well, with Williams presenting a briefcase and trunk in transparent red acrylic, reminiscent of Virgil’s coveted transparent bags.

Damier Multicolor

Pharrell continues to play with the iconic Damier print. In his prior collection, he reimagined Damier in an oversized edition and in Camouflage. Classic was not in the cards this season, with the introduction of a multi-colored slightly oversized Damier print featuring red, blue, green, yellow, and white, all with a touch of classic LV brown. This iteration is reminiscent of a cross-between Tyler, the Creator’s Craggy Monogram, and Takashi Murakami’s iconic Monogram Multicolore from the early 2000s. The new Damier Multicolor lineup includes the Speedy Bandoulière, Montsouris Messenger, Keepall, Danube, Neverfull, and Abbesses Messenger.

The Damier makeover carried on with another striking colorway – a fresh, preppy iteration in forest green and navy blue. Replacing the classic Vachetta leather synonymous with the Speedy and Keepall is complementary blue leather detailing. Spotted on numerous bag styles including the Keepall, an elevated Handle Soft Trunk, and a tote not too dissimilar in style to the Sac Plat. This new Damier design took center stage in the short film released prior to the show.

Speedy P9 Bandoulière

In the year since debuting in Pharrell’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection, the Speedy P9 Bandoulière has solidified itself as an LV must-have. While featured prominently on this runway, it didn’t dominate as before.  Displayed in various sizes including the crossbody style in the sizes 25 and 30, the Speedy P9 was also showcased in the travel-friendly sizes 40 and 50. For Spring-Summer 2025, new color options have been introduced, including subtle pastel shades like Yellow, Peach, Pistachio, and Candy Pink. If all-black is your vibe, there’s also a sleek So Black iteration.

Other Speedys & Keepalls

Millionaire Speedy

For those familiar with Pharrell’s previous LV shows, a new rendition of the Millionaire Speedy P9 comes as no surprise. Styled by Pharrell himself at the end of the show, the latest Millionaire Speedy is a made-to-order masterpiece crafted entirely in crocodile leather, featuring the iconic Monogram design. The classic bag is elevated with a chunky gold Cuban chain shoulder strap and a diamond-encrusted padlock. Priced at an astonishing €800,000, the latest edition of the Millionaire Speedy P9 is set to be released in January 2025.

Croc Monogram

Another exotic twist is the croc Monogram design in traditional Monogram colors, featuring an all-over crocodile pattern. Additionally, a larger Bandoulière style hit the runway in a black-on-black Monogram.

Multi-Pocket Speedy

Is it a Speedy, or is it a new bag entirely? If it is indeed the Speedy, this wouldn’t be the first time the icon received a makeover with pockets. Recall the Takashi Murakami Speedy Tote, complete with a front flap pocket design. Pharrell, however, takes it to another level by introducing a multi-pocket design on the iconic silhouette. Crafted in supple black leather with silver-tone hardware, this version includes a thick Monogram-embossed adjustable and detachable shoulder strap. It was showcased on the runway in both small and travel sizes.

Rhinestone Monogram

The Keepall also gets a dazzling makeover this season, going full-on glitz with an all-over rhinestone Monogram design. This shimmering rendition, presented in the iconic canvas’s classic colorway, glittered under the runway lights.

The Luxe Shopping Bag is Back

Pharrell’s fascination with elevating the humble paper shopping to high fashion continues this season. The luxe leather edition from his first show is reimagined in new shades and new textures, including bright green, and all-black, as well as ostrich and crocodile.

The design was also displayed in the new Multicolor Damier canvas, and classic Monogram with rhinestone detailing.

Pharrell also upgrades the humble (and sometimes banned) plastic grocery bag. Drawing inspiration from New York City’s iconic plastic bags with designs like ‘thank you, have a nice day,’  there’s a sleek, all-leather version. This sophisticated rendition features the LoVers logo on the front and the words ‘thank you’ on the back. Because who needs plastic when you can carry your groceries in LV luxury?

Trunks

As with all Louis Vuitton shows, trunks played a pivotal role, ranging from oversized hard-case trunks in classic Monogram or transparent acrylic to small hand-held soft trunk bags.

Sporty Novelty Accessories

A couple of novelty-style accessories hit the runway as part of the Soft Leather Goods lineup. For kicks, Williams has reimagined the limited edition Monogram football, originally created for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, into a fully functioning football/soccer-shaped bag. Enhanced with a Vachetta top handle and an adjustable, removable crossbody strap, the bag features a zippered opening. After all, ball-shaped bags are not new to LV, as this design is certainly reminiscent of the NBA basketball.

Another head-turner was the binocular bag, crafted entirely from a combination of Vachetta leather and Monogram leather. Primed for those times when birdwatching needs a dash of LV.
