It’s no secret that those of us at PurseBop love leather handbags. But we’re also huge Stella McCartney fans, and we respect the brand’s dedication to sustainability and commitment to using animal-free alternatives throughout their collections. So even though we love leather, we can fully get behind Stella McCartney’s signature faux leather bag: the Falabella.
The Falabella is a true “It” Bag—seriously, look at the celebrity sightings below!—with a rocker-chic vibe combined with a simple and elegant silhouette. The understated Falabella has been a big hit for years now (last summer it was one of the top 10 most searched for bags!). So, we thought it was finally time to provide a full reference guide on this Stella McCartney beauty.
History & Features
Ever since it was released in Stella McCartney’s Winter 2010 Collection, the Falabella has become a staple in fashionistas’ closets around the world. With prominent whipstitched hardware, the bag adds the perfect edgy touch to any outfit.
All Falabella materials are cruelty-free. The “leather” is vegan and does not contain PVC, while the lining is made of recycled nylon with a jacquard weave. While the material is synthetic, the craftsmanship is palpable. Sometimes, people don’t even realize that Falabella bags are leather-free! All Falabellas are made in Italy.
The Falabella is surprisingly versatile: it can be carried in the hand or worn over the shoulder. You can also fold it over and carry it as a clutch! In some ways, the bag plays different roles in different sizes. In the larger sizes, the Falabella is often used as an everyday slouchy tote that can easily spice up a casual outfit. In the smaller sizes, it’s the perfect evening bag.
The Falabella comes in 4 main sizes (though there are numerous other Falabella bag shapes that have strayed from the traditional design): tiny (18 x 18 x 7 cm), mini (26 x 26 x 10 cm), medium (36 x 36 x 7 cm), and big (43 x 43 x 11 cm). One of the most popular materials is a Stella McCartney signature: the leather substitute called “Shaggy Deer,” which is even more expensive to create than some leathers, and looks like a glossy, pebbled suede. The bag is also available in other artificial leathers, suede, and snakeskin, as well as denim.
