The weather isn’t the only thing heating up this season. Celebrity handbag trends are sizzling. Stars like Kim Kardashian and Elle Fanning are rocking some of PurseBop’s favourite brands everywhere from the red carpet to the airport. Here at PurseBop, we’ve broken down some of our top picks.
The Return of the Dior Saddle Bag
The Dior Saddle Bag, which became popular in the early 2000s, has been steadily making a comeback for sometime and now its return is official. The bag’s debut at John Galliano’s spring/summer 2000 collection for Dior left it an instant hit with the fashion crowd. Therefore, it is no surprise that nearly two decades later Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director at Dior, re-imagined the classic bag for the brand’s autumn/winter 2018 collection.
While this bag may have been spotted on the arms of countless celebs since then, Kim K consolidated it’s return as the ultimate ‘It bag’ with a Sex and the City inspired look last week. Channeling her inner Carrie Bradshaw (let’s face it, we all have one), Kardashian carried a newspaper print Dior Saddle Bag that she wore with a white vest top and a skirt of the same print from John Galliano’s autumn/winter 2000 collection for the house. There was no denying the look echoed a dress Sarah Jessica Parker wore on the hit show from the same collection.
The Politics of Birkins
Now for that other famous family – the ones who live in the White House. Whatever your politics, there’s no denying first lady Melania Trump’s love of a good designer. Accompanying her husband on a three-day state visit to the UK, Trump rocked a black crocodile Birkin worth over $60,000. She paired the Hermès treasure with a Celine trench coat when visiting British Prime Minister, Theresa May.
A similar, however much rarer piece, sold at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong last month. The handbag was part of the Hermès So Black series and sold for $208,000. In comparison, Mrs. Trump’s version is a virtual bargain.
Chanel Means Business
Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Lisa Vanderpump, was spotted carrying a Chanel CC Dual Handle Flap Bag in West Hollywood. The British restaurateur knows what it takes to succeed in business, therefore it should come as no shock that she keeps her affairs in order with a large classic Chanel bag resembling a briefcase. The mini bag trend may have been chic but practically will never go out of style!
Travel Personified
In the spirit of big bags, Bella Hadid gripped a large personalised Dior Book Tote whilst waling through JFK Airport. The supermodel went one step further than tying a brightly coloured ribbon around her suitcase to make it recognizable. There’s no chance of her losing her luggage when her name is on it!
A smaller version of the Book Tote is set to launch in 2020 but it looks like its big sis will retain its popularity due to its functionality.
Another celeb eager to let fellow jet-setters know who’s in the building is actress Elle Fanning. She was seen earlier this year making a quintessentially French arrival in Nice ahead of Cannes Film Festival. Sporting matching LV luggage, her initials can just about be made out if you squint.
Louis Vuitton - Forever the French Brand
Celebrities from all over the world flooded in droves to Cannes in France for its annual film festival that celebrates artistic talent at its finest. It seems many celebrities were eager to extend this celebration of creativity to French brand Louis Vuitton. Several stars sported some of the brand’s most beloved designs. Arriving in Nice ahead of the festival, actress Julianne Moore wore her Capucines Bag crossbody – hands-free and très chic!
Bollywood actress, Sonam Kapoor, opted for a newer Louis Vuitton design, the LV Egg Bag. Half Monogram canvas, half black calf leather, this bag may not be considered a classic just yet but its originality and chic look certainly mean it has the potential to be.
Will you be rocking any of these trends this summer? Let us know.
Love, PurseBop
