All eyes have been on the United Kingdom this week. Specifically, Saturday, May 6, 2023, which marks the Coronation of His Majesty The King. The last monarch to be crowned in England was Queen Elizabeth II when she ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952.
While history is certainly in the making, naturally, we’re checking out the handbags of those lucky attendees. Much like the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, clutches once again appear to be the bag of choice. Sophisticated and elegant, the clutch bag always rises to the royal occasion.
The Reception
In preparation for the big weekend, a much more intimate affair was hosted by the King at Buckingham Palace on Friday, May 5, 2023. The King hosted the reception for his many foreign guests, including many royals from across the globe.
Although eyes may be firmly on the big day itself, we couldn’t resist catching a glimpse of the handbag eye candy at the reception.
Crown Princess Kiko of Japan attended the reception wearing a timeless blue lace dress, complete with a matching clutch.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden finished off her pink dress with a pop of metallic, with a bright pink clutch and matching shoes.
Effortlessly chic, Queen Letizia of Spain wore a green Victoria Beckham dress with a contrasting black satin clutch.
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark wore a coral pink dress, with a contrasting pop of color in the form of a bright turquoise beaded clutch bag.
The Bhutanese royal looked amazing in her traditional dress, and chose to complete her look with a Bvlgari Serpentine leather clutch bag in gold.
Completing her all-black look, Princess Elisabeth of Belgium wore a silver embellished rhinestone clutch to add some sparkle.
Queen Rania of Jordan looked fabulous in her chocolate brown Schiaparelli jersey dress, complete with a chic metallic gold clutch and matching heels.
The Main Event
May 6, 2023 takes its place in history for the Coronation of His Majesty The King. While others may be discussing who will be crowned best dressed at this Royal event, our eyes are firmly on the handbags, or should we say clutches.
