Exotic Bags

Exotic materials were back in the spotlight for Spring-Summer 2025. While Chanel announced in 2018 that it would cease using exotic skins and fur in its designs, other luxury brands have fully embraced the wilder side of fashion. Whether these new pieces feature embossed patterns or the real deal remains to be seen. However, this bold move has not come without controversy – once again, protests erupted at Hermès’ show, with activists challenging the ethical concerns. As luxury houses push the boundaries, the tension between sustainability and design continues to stir debate in the industry.

Dries Van Noten

Following Dries Van Noten’s retirement from the runway after his final show at the men’s collections in June, the DVN design studio unveiled a striking display of unconventional prints and playful textures for Spring-Summer 2025. Bags played a major role in the collection, with the studio showcasing an array of exotic skin handbags and accessories. Snakeskin dominated the lineup in various shapes, sizes, and colors. From natural neutrals to bold, vibrant reds, the lineup includes slouchy messenger bags, east-west shoulder bags, oversized holdalls, and relaxed hobos, all adorned with eye-catching studded detailing along their wide shoulder straps.

Alongside these standout pieces, more minimalist bags were also presented, subtly enhanced with contrasting snakeskin shoulder straps for a refined look.

Loewe

Loewe embraced crocodile leather this season with the introduction of a new handbag. Creative Director Jonathan Anderson debuted a silhouette that stood in contrast to the geometric lines of the iconic Puzzle bag. Named the Madrid after Loewe’s home city, this new design featured a soft and relaxed shape, showcased in both small and large sizes on the runway, highlighting its voluminous form. While primarily presented in smooth leather, the standout piece was the small version crafted from black crocodile leather.
