Preceding Collection Versus the New Collection
The prior Lotus collection included individual and different sized pendants of the flower charm. The small size costs $10,500 USD, the medium $24,100 USD, and the large $80,000 USD.
However, this new collection not only creates new variations of the sizes but also combines them to create the illusion of a blooming set of lotus flowers. Like petite bouquets on your neck, finger or ears. Van Cleef & Arpels uses their mastery of diamond setting to ensure that the diamond shine is optimized. Our guess is that this new release is meant to be more budget-friendly, while combining three new sizes in one design.
The Meaning of the Lotus Collection
Van Cleef & Arpels’ jewelry collections tend to revolve around a theme — whether it be nature, whimsical fairies, love, or the beauty of gemstones itself. The Maison chose to create a whole line around the graceful lotus flower because of its symbolic meaning and its resilience in nature.
The lotus flower symbolizes beauty, purity, and accomplishment through its inherent charms. In many cultures, a lotus flower represents purity because it emerges from murky and muddy waters to bloom into something even more beautiful and unsullied. In particular, the lotus flower also represents the purity of the human soul and its ability to survive – as the center of the lotus flower is never tainted by its journey as it pushes its way through muddy water to find sunlight. As the lotus flower hits the surface of the water and is exposed to sunlight, a single petal opens, signifying accomplishment. The lotus is also seen as a symbol of accomplishment because of its ability to withstand and survive long winter months by closing its petals and re-opening them come springtime.
The Beauty of the Preceding Lotus Collection
While the flower inspired collection signifies elegance, daintiness, and beauty, the Van Cleef & Arpels’ Lotus Collection continues to grab our hearts through its symbolism and exquisite embellishment of high-quality pave diamonds. The Maison continues to push boundaries through its skilled expertise of jewelry making, which results in exquisite details and transformable ways to wear these accessories. Van Cleef & Arpels’ intricate diamond embedding technique, referred to as Perle de Rosée, allows light to reflect through each diamond, increasing the luster and brilliance of each jewelry piece.
What appealed to me from this preceding collection is the versatility of both the pendant necklace and the Between the Finger ring depending on the wearer’s mood. For instance, the medium and large lotus pendant has the adaptability to be worn as either a pendant or a brooch.
The Lotus Between the Finger Ring is also transformable, allowing the wearer to manipulate the ring through its unique craftsmanship and mechanisms. You can flatten the ring around the fingers through sliding it open to expose both the lotus flower and buds, revealing their intricate and detailed patterns on two fingers. The rings mechanism also allows one to rotate the stem to allow both the lotus and stem to set on one finger, allowing one ring to be worn in different ways. Below is an example of both options –
The Old Lotus Between the Finger Ring Versus the New Version
Interestingly enough, Van Cleef & Arpels subtly updated their original Lotus Between the Finger Ring a few years ago. When comparing the two designs, you can see that the Maison refined the stem part of the ring. As seen on @swedishandstylish, her ring from 2016 or before has a differently shaped stem. The older version of the ring consists of a ribbed design on the stem of the lotus flower. In addition, the older designs leaves are pointing in different directions when compared to the newer design.
Between the preceding and the latest launch collections, which one do you prefer? Do you see yourself adding either of these to your jewelry collection?
We will update you as more images and information becomes available.
